Reality of a Prison Writer 25—E.C. Theus-Roberts

Iconoclasts are very principled people. People rarely acknowledge or accept that having principles carries consequences. The majority of prisoners would rather compromise their alleged morals and values than suffer the consequences. The same happens everyday with free citizens of the world. It’s the “go along to get along” attitude or kowtowing to social convention.

In prison an iconoclast faces a lot worse than potentially losing a career or post of office. My case is a good example. Come to the aid of friends being assailed by an armed attacker and be the only person criminally prosecuted. Lobby for equal access to education in the federal courts; create and participate in programs that educate and edify prisoners; involve yourself in politics; and try to change a broken, ineffectual institution. Find yourself desaparecido into some other state’s administrative segregation despite, perhaps in spite of, model behavior for over two years.

Isolated and separated from everyone and thing that matters to me and vice versa. Most prisoners surrender into pointless violence or tepid docility. In this my case is unusual because I persist. To an iconoclast every impossibility is merely another obstacle.
