:Why Are You Keeping the Living-Dead Dead?: TommyLee Dean
June, 2021
The Colorado Department of Corrections’ mission statement con cludes by stating: “…(CDOC also looks to) engage them (prisoners) in opportunities to make positive behavior changes and become law abiding, productive citizens.” What it should actually proclaim is that CDOC looks “to keepthe living-dead dead.”
Having a writer’s passion tending more so towards extreme fiction pulp and splatterpunk horror, I seem to allude to darker anal ogies when expressing my ideas. I see myself, as well as many other prisoners, having accomplished suicide without actually dying. We find ourselves buried in these tombs built for the living due to making those wrong choices that got us caught up in the first place: the living-dead. We have no savior descending from his de mise back in the world of the carnal to spend 3 days and nights at tempting to rescue us from Hades because CDOC does all that it can, it seems to me, to assure that these tombs are sealed up tight.
I have been informing people that PWSO is here for no other reason than to promote prisoners’ self-rehabilitation through those prisoners’ own hard work and talent(s). I fully believe this and so does my co-incorporator, Mr Griffin, but CDOC and its associates have some kind of bias against us – they are hating and I personal ly believe it is because PWSO actually, truly wants and is authentically trying to do what CDOC proclaims but fails miserably at when considering what the recidivism numbers show. But, of course, much like many biased and closed-minded individuals everywhere and throughout history, their prejudice closes their eyes to the good others have to offer, so they shut out opportunities to gain allies helping to achieve what they claim they are trying to do. Or maybe CDOC administration, staff and associates only see what they are doing as simple employment providing a paycheck and, therefore, do not really care about the public’s safety, like they claim, and can actually give a rat’s ass if they are releasing reformed individu
als or not. It’s one of the two – right?
PWSO has extended the olive branch to CDOC and a CDOC affiliate by asking them to join the conversation here at PWSO.blog but met a stonewalling in return. The affiliate Mr Griffin contacted refuses to join us in our efforts because of looking to renew their
contract with CDOC and not wanting anything to maybe interfere with that. In addition to this, I was told by administration that CDOC policy keeps them from supporting a prisoner’s business ventures. I told them that PWSO is a nonprofit registered with the Colorado Secretary of State and not a business; we are inviting CDOC to join the conversation, not asking for support. Their response was that they are not going to encourage any of their staff to intermingle with the element found on PWSO.blog. Hmmmm – sounds rather prejudicial to me, but what do I know, I am simply a brain-dead zombie existing in these tombs built for the living and kept tightly sealed by CDOC.
