I, TommyLee Dean, am not only a co-incorporator of PWSO Inc, I am the resident representative at Sterling Correctional Facility and an incarcerated writer and artist. I have experienced, first hand, how this particular prison system claims to advocate for a
prisoner’s reform but allows for its bureaucracy to actually im pede that very same reform. It’s a type of police brutality remaining obscured in the prison gun-tower shadows because much of the public is not involved enough to force the change that is needed. I believe that prisoners with legitimate talent in writing, art and other crafts, that could become lucrative careers for them to someday walk out these gates to, have nothing but time, in here, to establish said careers.
CDOC, as the government entity that it is, could afford these prisoners unlimited re sources and should because such careers will grant a self-worth that is more capable of enacting true rehabilitation than simply being kicked back out to the streets with $100 in pocket, certificates not recognized in the real world and the clothes on their backs. Please, join PWSO Inc in being more involved with stopping this form of police brutality and giving prison based writers and artists true support to enact true change and rehabilitation in their lives through their own hard work, talents and true assistance from their keepers. Much as CDOC has power over us prisoners, you, as the public, have power over CDOC, so, please, sign up, post a comment, make a phone call… anything… and let CDOC know that you are involved.
